FunkCity.net is pleased to bring you the first lisen of the new album Funkcedonia by Funky Lemonade.  The full four track preview can be streamed here from the audio player. Funkcedonia is the first release from a young Italian band including my new friend, guitarist Matteo Coluccia.  It’s a nice initial offering, in the bands works “a fruit salad of genres: funk, jazz, blues and rock.”  Definitely can hear the Snarky Puppy influences here as they admitedly are all fans and they “believe in a music with no boundaries.”  Enjoy and look forward to the full release on December 16, 2017.Continue Reading

Mopapod? Dopatet?  The double bill of Dopapod + The Motet at the Variety Playhouse in Atlanta on 11/18 promised to be a funk extravaganza as it was the last of the pairing of these two bands on the tour.  The pumped up crowd was stoked from Dopapod’s opening (Dopapod opening tune on YouTube) right to the superjam at the end (The Motet + Dopapod, This is How We Do It on YouTube). Ghost-Note, the innovative percussion-driven funk band rolled into Aisle 5 ATL and drew a huge, energized crowd. The band, led by Robert “Sput” Searight and Nate Werth, each of Snarky Puppy fame, put their imprint on the funk with their original tunes drawn from their first album Fortified and their second, yet to be released album Swagism (2018).  The band featured MonoNeon on bass (formerly with Prince), M. There is likely no more iconic group for Spirt of Suwanee Music Park as Lettuce and there’s no better timeslot or stage for their interstellar funk than midnight on the Amphitheater stage.  And so it was for Hulaween 2017 the flagship set where Lettuce torched the festival with one of their alltime spaciest, spookiest, funkiest low down and nasty sets.  You can catch the Mt. Lotus was the Sunday highlight of Hulaween 2017 as they took their jamtronica to the masses on the Patch stage.  In some ways, the band is a perfect fit for this festival which tends to host jam bands and EDM and Lotus is a nice blend of the two.  Their tunes are unique and instantly recognizable and the band hit with a number of classic tunes as shown in the setlist.  Spiritualize (opener) and Age of Inexperience (closer) are available on FunkCity.net on YouTube.
