Earphunk took over Terminal West on Thursday night and delivered a high powered non-stop, booty shaking, earth quaking, sonic boom of a performance. The five piece progressive funk out of New Orleans mixes deep fonky bass lines with extra terrestrial synth and guitar work. Paul Provosty delivers some mind altering guitar licks that sound like other instruments altogether. Mark Hempe had the crowd begging for more on the catchy Sweet Nasty and especilly Phine. The two Michaels on the drum/bass break were exceptionally tight. I mentioned to Michael Comeaux (in photo with me from TWest show in the spring, thatContinue Reading
How do you feel when you leave a great concert compared to when you first went in? For me, I know I always feel better, mentally and physically, tired as I may be. I’m very interested in what music is doing to my mind and body to create such a big effect. Corinne Bailey Rae has developed a wonderful six-episode discussion on how music impacts each of us. She is so beautiful, spiritual and a wonderful person and musician. Take some time to listen to each of the episodes with the links below. Episode 1: What Can Nature TeachContinue Reading
Simply put, Corinne Bailey Rae is one of the most wonderful singers in the world today! Beautiful, spiritual, musical, warm, amazing — use any superlative you want — they all fit. Standing in the rain 1/2 hour early, getting drenched, was worth ever second to see and hear Corinne pour her heart and soul into every word. Early in the set, her cover of Bob Marley’s “Is This Love” was masterful. That was followed up with “Put Your Records On” to which her adoring fans sang every word and relished the moment. My personal favorite was “Stop Where You Are” which youContinue Reading
Balkan Beat Box One of the most energetic acts you’ll ever see and few in the crowd had ever heard of – BBB kicked off the entire festival into high gear. Their set included many of my favorites including Bulgarian Chicks, Digital Monkey and Part of the Glory. Of course they played several songs from their new album “Shout it Out” dropping November 11. Tomer on lead vocals and percussion is a non-stop kinetic machine. Ori Kaplan on sax is blows a super clean tone. I totally agree with their self-proclaimed assessment from their website – Hailing from New YorkContinue Reading

Anyone who grew up with funk and soul in the 70s watched Soul Train. And all of those funkateers and wannabees (like me) watched the line dancing. Cheryl Song reigned as the queen of the line dance for 14 years! Nice interview can be found here: Interview with Cheryl Song Continue Reading
