Candler Park’s Music and Food Festival has been going on for thirteen years and has evolved from a small Atlanta neighborhood affair to a full blown regional music blowout with nationally famous touring acts. The fest traditionally held in late May-early June has been pushed back due to Covid-19 and this will be the first held since 2019.  Each day is packed with some great acts and here’s the rundown that we’re looking forward to. Friday Highlights Galactic is one of my favorite all-time New Orleans funk bands, on the scene for nearly 25 years.  Their mix of skill andContinue Reading

For FunkCity.net, 2019 was a remarkable year that is recapped here.  I apologize in advance for the self-serving nature but it was definitely a year like no other in my experience based on a combination of personal music achievements and fantastic music events.  It was a huge year for four of my favorite groups, Snarky Puppy, Lettuce, The New Mastersounds and The Budos Band! Here’s the nineteen top happenings in 2019 – Snarky Puppy 17 Compilation: The year started with my proudest musical moment – Snarky Puppy came out with a limited edition, 4-vinyl recap of their 2017 world tour. Continue Reading

Just had the most spectacular festival experience and will be writing some expanded coverage over the next couple of weeks but wanted to dash off a note to express thanks to all those involved and just touch on some of the highlights! First, hats off to Paul Levine and his crew for pulling off a monstrous feat in just two months time. OMFG the musiciansContinue Reading

On the Run – Hedonistas: These young turks are having anContinue Reading

Voodoo Visionary brought their feel good funk to Big Sky Buckhead Saturday night as their final in town gig before opening for Tauk at the Variety Playhouse on November 18th.    The group is on the verge of releasing their second album and they are fast developing a fan base across the Southeast. Many in crowd had seen them before and were coming back for more. For me, highlights of their show are always “Sticky Situation” along with “Harmony” which they nailed, as expected. Mike Wilson shreds guitar with the best of them. Dennis Dowd brings back memories of Rufus or SlyContinue Reading
