Coming off of a great year for FunkCity.net in 2019, this year was starting out looking even better with a bunch of great shows lined up in the Winter and the fantastic festival kicking off in April.  There was no waiting as I rolled up to Greenville on January 2 to see Lettuce and I was off to the races. Color Red Music is a Denver-based label started by Eddie Roberts of The New Mastersounds. The label produces all original music and includes the upcoming NMS album in September, Matador! Soul Sounds, Analog Son and new bands and combinations of artists. Some of the recent highlights are Freekbass featuring Sammi Garett from Turkuaz, Joe Tatton Trio, several combos with members of The Motet, NMS and other world class players. Mopapod? Dopatet?  The double bill of Dopapod + The Motet at the Variety Playhouse in Atlanta on 11/18 promised to be a funk extravaganza as it was the last of the pairing of these two bands on the tour.  The pumped up crowd was stoked from Dopapod’s opening (Dopapod opening tune on YouTube) right to the superjam at the end (The Motet + Dopapod, This is How We Do It on YouTube).
