Funk You, out of Augusta, GA put fort a New Year’s Eve celebration that stacks up with any I’ve been to. With The Brotherhorns from Athens, GA they teamed up to set the night on fire. It was a 3 hour set and we caught 2.5 hours worth not including the 1/2 hour encore.
The band is one of the hottest new funk acts around and their New Year’s Eve show at Aisle 5 in Atlanta was definitely the best show for the money to celebrate the evening. The band played an excellent selection of original material from their albums Apparations (2016) and their latest What’s On Your Mind? (2018).
In addition, one highlight was a Beatles medley of Mean Mr. Mustard > Polythene Pam > She Came In Through The Bathroom Window. Amy Taylor of another local band I.R.E. kicked ass with her guest spot on lead vocals for Another Piece of My Heart which was really a showstopper. And they kept on bringing out surprises including the Bill Withers tune Use Me featuring members of yet another Athens, GA favorite, Universal Sigh. Come Down featured Josh Spilliards of The Brotherhorns on sousaphone. All along, the show featured top notch laser effects for a very special evening making it a festival for the eyes and ears.
