Tower of Power Returns to City Winery 8-13 and 8-14

Tower of Power, one of FunkCity.net’s all time favorite bands, is widely recognized as the best horn band of all time.  They celebrated their 50th anniversary in June this year with a two show blowout in Oakland.  We’re so looking forward to Monday and Tuesday when we’ll be front row at City Winery Atlanta to experience the fantastic all around, polished musicianship of this band.

Of course the group is well known for all their “hits” including such gems as “What is Hip?”, “You’re Still A Young Man“, and “So Very Hard To Go” which were all performed during last year’s two night stint at the same location.  We were honored to get the set list from both nights and got a double dose of that sweet soul music.

The group is as tight as a drum and is still fronted by original “partners in crime” Emilio Castillo and Stephen “Doc” Kupka.  Hoping to see originals David Garibaldi on drums who has rejoined the band after a horrific accident last year, and Francis “Rocco” Prestia on bass as well.  Marcus Scott, the lead singer has phenomenal chops and the entire band just knows how to roll. Check out this medley from last year’s run compiled for our YouTube channel.

In conjunction with their 50th anniversary, they released their first album of original material Soul Side of Town which became their first Billboard #1 and hence their “breakthrough” recording.  Check out our full album review here.  Hoping to see some of your faces in all the right places on Monday and Tuesday, cause You Outta Be Havin’ Fun!
