FunkCity.net is a full-time passion project, effective July 1, 2024. So, what is FunkCity.net and what impact will this have?
FunkCity.net started out nearly eight years ago as a part-time lifestyle blog, primarily covering live funk, jazz and soul music in Atlanta. Before and during the pandemic, coverage expanded into album reviews and festival coverage.
Starting today, the focus will be the same, on live and recorded jazz, funk, and soul music but with two major differences, in scale and geography. The entirety of my work hours will devoted to music. This is probably a 5X increase in time, so you can expect to see more show and album coverage. Further, there will be more travelling to shows outside of the Southeast U.S. This is a trend that had been growing but will now be even less constrained.
I am extraordinarily grateful to all the artists, promoters, venues and festivals that have helped me realize this dream. I will continue to carry the torch for the beautiful music that is sent to me or that I experience on the road.
I welcome music submissions and all promotional material sent to Jake@FunkCity.net and look forward to collaborating in the future.
All the best,
Jake
